[ May 10, 1999 ] BACK ASSOCIATES AND AVSTAT ANNOUNCE THE AVAILABILITY OF TWO NEW REGIONAL AIRLINE DATABASES. COMPANIES TO OFFER DETAILED AIRCRAFT OPERATING COST, UTILIZATION AND COMPANY FINANCIAL INFORMATION PHOENIX, May 10 -- Washington-based AvStat Associates and New Haven, CT-based BACK Associates today unveiled an entirely new generation of regional airline information. The new service builds upon information AvStat has made available to the aviation industry on a subscription-only basis since 1993. Users will now be able to access more regional aircraft and airline financial operating data than ever before. Historically, reliable and accurate data covering the regional airline industry has been either scarce or difficult to come by. The AvStat/BACK joint venture aims to satisfy the growing need for regional-specific information by combining AvStat's reputation as the industry's most often-cited source of regional airline industry data with BACK's worldwide distribution network of aviation databases. The two databases are based on information supplied by regional carriers to the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). The first is a comprehensive review of regional aircraft utilization and direct operating costs. It will incorporate more than 20 U.S.-based regional carriers and a total of 18 different aircraft types seating between 19 and 100 passengers including the following models:
Users of the database will be able to access real-time direct operating costs (doc's) on both an absolute and per block hour basis. In addition to total doc costs, it will also include a detailed break-down of the major aircraft operating expense categories including the following accounts:
The carriers included in the aircraft utilization and operating cost database together represent 82.5% of U.S. regional airline industry passengers and 86% of revenue passenger miles (rpm's.) Among those operators included are: Air Wisconsin, Allegheny Airlines, American Eagle Airlines, Astral Aviation/ Skyway Airlines, Atlantic Coast Airlines (ACA), Atlantic Southeast Airlines (ASA), Business Express, Comair, Continental Express, Era Aviation, Horizon Air, Mesa Airlines, Mesaba Airlines, Peninsula Airways, SkyWest Airlines, Trans States Airlines and UFS. The second AvStat/BACK database will cover regional airline financial operating results for individual certificated entities. A total of five accounts will be available to users on a restricted basis. They include: l Total Operating Revenue l Passenger Revenues (Scheduled Service) l Total Operating Expenses l Operating Income l Net Income As the DOT restricts access to current regional airline financial information, users will only be able to access data which is at least three years old unless special permission is granted by the Office of Airline Information.
